Mirror mirror on the wall

What message does your mirror image give you? Are you beautiful enough, thin enough, smart enough and anointed enough? A good self image, self esteem and self confidence is not built up by something from the outside, even if we many times believe that, but when we understand, through reading the word of God, who we already are in God. You and I can change our picture of ourselves when we the word of God becomes our mirror.

We all know about Snow white. Every day in front of the mirror Snow white’s step mother asks: “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all”. For many years the mirror answers her that she is the fairest in the country but when Snow White grows up the mirror changes its message that Snow white is the fairest woman. This makes the step mother so mad that she even divides to kill her own step daughter.

Maybe you say that this only happens in the fairy-tails. The question is how far from the reality the fairy-tail about Snow white is today? Young girls almost (and women in all ages) starve themselves to death due to what the mirror tells them. Other women pay tens of thousands do remake their appearance through cosmetic operations. Media pumps out a vicious ideal of beauty that makes most girls and women feel bad about themselves when they look in the mirror.

Research shows that women look at themselves in the mirror up to seventy times a day. Yes, you read correctly. I also had to read it twice before I could take it in, seventy times a day. Of course it varies between different women, but no matter if it is seventy or ten times a day we have to admit that we have a hard time not to look at ourselves when we pass the bedroom mirror, the bathroom mirror, the hall mirror, the shop window or the car window.

The question how many times you look in the mirror is not the important one to answer but what you see when you look in the mirror? It doesn’t have to be about your outside but also what you see about your inside. What is the picture you have about yourself? Maybe you see that you are not good enough, strong enough, beautiful enough or anointed enough. Can you change the picture you and I have about ourselves? I am convinced that you can. The Bible says that with God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37).

You and I can change our picture of ourselves when we the word of God becomes our mirror. It is the word of God and only the word of God that gives you the true picture of who you really are. Just imagine if we would read, meditate on and speak out the word of God over our lives as often as we look in the mirror. It would definitely change us and the picture we have about ourselves. In James 1:25 (NLT) we read: “But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free…”. The perfect law, the word of God, sets you free. John 8:32 says: “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. A wrong picture of ourselves can bind and hold us back from serving God fully. But the truth sets us free. When you fill yourself with the word of God things start to happen inside of you. Hebrews 4:12 says: “For the word of God is living and powerful…”. When you and I choose to read and believe the word of God it starts to live, work and change us. Our eyes change and we start to see what God sees when he looks at us. A good self image, self esteem and self confidence is not built up by something from the outside, even if we many times believe that, but when we understand, through reading the word of God, who we already are in God.

God has a wonderful plan with your life. A plan where he wants you to live whole and secure. A plan where you can live in total freedom. A plan where you can love yourself and others like yourself. A plan where God wants to use you. When we fill ourselves with the word of God we start I see and believe in that plan. Everything starts with you seeing yourself with the eyes of God. I encourage you to daily look yourself in the mirror of Gods word. Let the truth set you free, free to serve God and be the woman of God you were created to be.
